The overall significance of the scene remains to be identified. The variety of crown jewels on the table predictably refers to the different territories under the rule of George III. The Crown of Charlemagne, for example, draws attention to his position as Treasurer of the Holy Roman Empire. The drawing may refer to the fact that George surrendered the Crown Estate to Parliamentary control in return for a fixed annual payment early in his reign.
